How to Replace a Ford Taurus Muffler
A muffler replacement is of mild difficulty. There aren’t any real specialty tools you need, and you can also do this without a lift. Make sure your Ford Taurus is in park and the parking brake is on before you lift the back end of the car. Do not leave the jack under the car as your support. Use jack stands to prop up the vehicle when working under it. You may be able to use ramps as well under the rear wheels instead of using a jack.
Start by removing the clamps that hold the muffler to the pipe. If the bolts are difficult to remove, use penetrating oil on the threads and let them sit for a while before trying again. In severe cases if may be necessary to use a tool to cut the clamps off. You will need to buy new ones.
Remove the hangers.
Disconnect the muffler.
If you have a direct OEM fit muffler, then there will be no need for any kind of modification.
Pre-lubricate the end if needed and install the new muffler.
Replace the hangers and tighten the clamps. Make sure there is at lease 1 inch between the clamp and the end of the pipe.
Good Luck!
